WATERTOWN, SD - The first class of Build Dakota Scholars is starting school.

The full-ride scholarships are aimed at drawing people to South Dakota and positions in high-need career fields. They’re a partnership between the state and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford, each contributing $25,000,000 to the $50,000,000 program.

Recipients must commit to staying in South Dakota for three years after graduating. The program is awarding 300 scholarships each of the first five years of the program. After that, 50 scholarships will be awarded each year.
